What Rough Beast | Poem for December 7, 2017

Ed Madden
On the other hand

My friend Agata posts that she’s
in a coffee shop and she is
unable to work because the baristas

are talking about Donald Trump
fulfilling biblical prophesies and being
the hand of god. I wanted to ask

if it’s the pussy-grabbing hand,
she says, or a different one,
but I applied my social filter.

On the other hand, she posted
a few moments later, there’s
suspense. A guy is going to propose.

And he asked the baristas to take
a photo of the girl when she
arrives, a photo when he asks

for her hand.
