Indolent Books Announces

The Intersex Quarterly

An online quarterly featuring intersex voices and perspectives

Created in conjunction with the Intersex Campaign for Equality (IC4E)  and edited by Hida Viloria and A.J. Odasso.

From Our Editors…

We’ve been deeply impressed by the many emerging voices in our community, whether seasoned or new, activists, writers, or other individuals with opinions and stories to share. We want to amplify these voices, and we want you to share yours in the first online quarterly of intersex voices.

Our inaugural issue, Intersex Positive: What We Love About Being Intersex,  will be released on Intersex Awareness Day—October 26, 2018. With featured pieces by award-winning authors Georgiann Davis and Thea Hillman, we’re already excited and can’t wait to hear from more of you!

Submission Guidelines

Are you intersex and feeling grateful about it? Or about the intersex community and the amazing, inspiring progress we’ve been making? Has being intersex brought unique experiences or perspectives that you feel have enriched your life? Has being intersex allowed you to assist your friends, family, and community in positive, perhaps unexpected ways? Has being intersex informed your gender identity and sexuality in positive ways, despite widespread negative presumptions? All of these things and more are true for many of us, and we believe the world needs to know.

  • We are seeking creative nonfiction (essays), fiction, and poetry written by intersex individuals
  • Please limit essays and short fiction to 5,000 words or fewer, and send up to 5 poems or 5 pages of poetry
  • Please send submissions as .doc or .rtf files to: intersexquarterly@gmail.com
  • First draft submissions are due on October 11th

Want to submit but unsure about your writing or your topic? Please reach out to us for prompts, suggestions, or guidance with your submission, or questions about the process. Also, we realize that this is a short deadline, so don’t fret if you can’t make the cut-off. The second issue of the Intersex Quarterly will go live in early 2019, and the theme and submission deadline will be announced in our Intersex Awareness Day 2018 issue.
