What Rough Beast | Poem for October 17, 2018

Michael Stalcup
The Wound

I have seen the wound of a people
Stretched wide
And the honored physicians
Shaking their heads
In disgust

That they would even be invited
To stoop down
To consider
To enter in
To believe

Offended at the mere suggestion
That the messy truth
Is worth more
Than their frail
Power
