Second Coming No. 114 — May 13, 2025
A poem-a-day protest against the threat posed to our democracy by the current occupant of the White House and his regime
Jennifer McKeen Rodrigues
Dear God,
What is your favorite meal?
Jack in the Box & spaghetti
Who is your favorite group of people?
There are no groups of people, all are the same
Do you listen to music?
I am the creator & inspiration of all, even for those who don’t acknowledge me in their art
Do you advocate violence?
I created the idea of violence but you humans are the advancers of it
Do you really see everything I do?
I’m not interested in your comings & goings, just don’t be a shitbag
Did you just cuss at me?
You’ve heard worse
Do you believe in worship?
It pains me that people think I want that
What would you prefer?
Self-study, intuition coffee breaks, listening to the laughter of children, not visiting active volcanoes
Have you ever gone on holiday?
My existence is a holiday yet I never rest
Do you know what death is like?
You do
Is there another name for love?
It’s the opposite word to money
Could you show me visions of my future?
I could sing you Spanish techno, the vision lies within
Do you like thunderstorms?
I love thunderstorms, how anyone ever associates thunderstorms with my stomping around is beyond my comprehension, they are glorious and melodic and destructive
Is there such a thing as “the chosen people”?
Preposterous, you humans have comically limited minds
Would you make me a house made of Starbursts?
Only if you’re interested in living in an ant farm
Why do you choose some parents to suffer in front of their children & not others?
I choose nothing of that sort, humans are born of their own desires & ignorance
I guess the same could be said of children’s suffering.
You’re catching on
Why did you create humans?
Purely for my own amusement, I haven’t been disappointed yet
Are you disappointed in the way we carry out our lives?
Not disappointed, not surprised
Does reincarnation happen when we die?
How do you think you got here?
Can you tell me some good news?
Dolphins live in both oceans & rivers, & some eat large whales
How is that good news?
They live together in peaceful communities
God, do you really exist?
Who do you think is writing this down?
