Indolent Books and editor Michael Broder are back with another poem-a-day series called Second Coming as a creative response to the threat posed to our democracy by the second Trump administration. The current plan is to continue for all 1461 days of the 47th presidential administration of the United States of America.
We are not using Submittable this time around. They are too expensive. Just attach up to three (3) poems in an email with a bio to michael [at] indolentbooks [dot] com with Second Coming submission in the subject line.
Editorial Guidelines
I seek poems that are not previously published.
The tone and register of Second Coming is similar to that of our previous pro-democracy poem-a-day series, Poems in the Aftermath and What Rough Beast. I encourage poems that engage with the issues of our times with emotional depth. This is not a place for political diatribe. I suggest you read a number of poems in the series to get a sense of which poems of yours might fit. I continue not to be a big fan of political diatribe. No poems explicitly deriding the president or members of his administration or other public figures or their families.
As a matter of practicality to keep me from going insane with formatting on the website, I prefer poems that are completely flush left and have no extra spaces between words within lines.
Donation in lieu of submission fee
In lieu of a submission fee, we ask you to support Second Coming by making a donation to Indolent Arts, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit fiscal sponsor of Indolent Books. Using the donation button below, you can donate as little as $1.00. Based on prevailing norms on platforms like Submittable, we suggest a minimum donation of $3.00. You can donate more if you wish.
If you have any questions about editorial guidelines, just shoot us an email.
Here we go again!
