What Rough Beast | Poem for August 29, 2017

Mary Hampton
Border Wall

It’s a metaphorical wall
—Newt Gingrich

Of what will
it be made?
Concrete
or abstract?
How long?
How high?
Will it
keep out
or
keep in?
Will there be towers?
What will patrol
its top walk?
Will it be ruled
by the ledger
or the lash?
