What Rough Beast | Poem for July 7, 2018

Jonathan Rentler
yoke of gravity

i’m too old
for child’s pose

can’t hold a chair
& my table top’s warped

when told to breathe
be a mountain, be a tree

my knees-lock
uprooting & i crack

tumbling down
ward past the mat

floors, sewer to sea
more corpse than baby

on my back, mouth
open as the sky
